New Work Permit Process Model at the Swedish Migration Agency

Work Permit decision time might be affected

As of May 02, 2017, the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) started with a new process for certified companies. All conditions for granting the actual work permits are intact, yet the processing time is affected depending on the application’s submittal date.

  • For applications submitted before May 1, 2017, the previous processing time applies
  • For applications submitted after May 2, 2017, the new processing time applies

For applications submitted after May 1, the processing time is improved due to the new process model. Note that this might result in different processing times for employees with similar applications, depending on whether the application was submitted before May 1.

  • For applications regarding new work permits, the Migration Agency will make a decision within 10 business days.
  • For applications regarding extending work permits, the Migration Agency will make a decision within 20 business days.

To meet the above processing times the submitted applications will need to be complete with individual (positive) trade-union organization comment.

Human Entrance certificate remains unchanged and our application for work permit are by default prioritized at the Migration Agency, resulting in an overall faster processing. However, processing time for active applications submitted before May 1 cannot be added to the new process model, and will be processed in chronological order.

The Swedish Migration Agency is allocating extra resources to speed up the processing time for pending cases. Thus, Human Entrance expects an improvement of the overall decision waiting time the next coming months.
